Mitsubishi has recently bid farewell to all of its performance focused vehicles in an attempt to focus on the SUV and commercial vehicle market. Its lineup of concept cars planned for this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon further enforces the brand’s focus and gives us a clear hint of things to come from them in the future. All of the concept models displayed give off a very roughed persona. These iterations will be mainly cosmetic with some adventurous functionalities.
The two models which have been customised are the Outlander PHEV and the Delica D5 (an MPV sold mainly in Asian markets). Both utility vehicles have been given an Outdoor Gear and Active Camper redesign. The Outdoor Gear concept focuses on extreme activities while using a white and orange colour scheme while Active Camper variants are designed for people who wish to reach into those isolated wilderness lands to escape from the urban jungle. This will have a matte silver paint with a dark camouflage finish.
The Outlander’s Outdoor Gear sits on an ironic set of 20-inch alloy wheels with offroad tyres. A handy roof rack and less handy boot spoiler have also been clipped on. Inside you will find a black cabin theme with orange accents and mesh fabric seats with suede trim. The Outlander’s Active Camper Concept gets a similar set of 20-inch wheels, adjustable suspension and a roof box with a 1 500 W auxiliary power port.
The Delica Outdoor Gear concept carries on the same themes but with more of a roughed appeal thanks to its high profile 16-inch wheels and faux carbon bumpers with brush guards. Outdoor Gear models also benefit from LED inserts below the headlamps. The Delica Active Camper concept receives a lower profile wheel and a roof pan rather than the box as seen on the Outlander.
Tokyo Auto Salon starts this Friday and will run over the course of the weekend. If you can’t wait for these adventure packs you can always have a look at the current Pajero Shogun.
