Reporters from the UK-based motoring website Pistonheads.com, attended the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG GT on Tuesday. Nothing new about that, but, they did manage to grab a few moments with one of the new V8 engine’s developers, Thomas Ramsteiner.
This is what he had to say:
“It’s very strong (the engine) and the cooling system is very robust. We’re currently working to a limit of 130 bar of crankcase pressure, but it’s really much stronger and can run to140 bar easily.”
He was then asked about the result of this, and what kind of power the engine will be able to produce.
“Well, look at how much one 2,0-litre engine makes in the A45 AMG and just double it, if you want to guess…”
Although technically this means 530 kW, we expect an upcoming Black Series to deliver anything between 450 and 480 kW. How AMG will manage to deliver all that power through only the rear wheels remains to be seen!
