This week, Daimler published a document looking back on the first six months of 2016. Also tucked away in the release, however, is a slide suggesting that Mercedes-Benz’s new bakkie will actually arrive in 2017, quite some time earlier than originally thought.
When the brand first announced its plans to enter the bakkie segment (back in March 2015), it said it would do so “before the end of the decade”. In the intervening time, however, many publications have suggested that the vehicle will arrive at some point in 2018.
But this new document all but confirms that the pick-up truck – which will be based on the Nissan Navara and likely badged as the GLT – will join the Mercedes line-up in the second half of 2017.
The roadmap also confirms that the Stuttgart-based automaker plans to add a GLA Coupe model to its growing line-up next year [update: the automaker has since replaced this roadmap with another, which doesn’t feature the GLA Coupe at all. You can read about that here].
Other new vehicles on the cards for 2017 include the E-Class Coupe, E-Class Cabriolet, E-Class All Terrain, GT C Coupe and GT C Roadster, while the S-Class will receive a facelift.
The group also has plans to add electric versions of the Smart Cabrio and Smart ForFour to its range in 2017.
