It is the most luxurious cabriolet yet from Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class cabriolet (read our initial driving impression here) is now available in South Africa, and the range exactly mimics the coupé line-up.
This means there are cabriolet versions of the S500, S63 and S65.
The S500 Cabriolet is powered by a 4,7-litre turbocharged V8 engine (335 kW/700 N.m), shoving the stylish drop-top to 100 km/h in a claimed 4,6 seconds (same as the coupé).
The S63 features the 5,5-litre turbocharged V8 engine (430 kW/900 N.m), pushing the car to 100 km/h in 4,2 seconds, while the 6,0-litre, turbocharged V12 engine (463 kW/1 000 N.m) powering the S65 is claimed to facilitate a 4,1-second sprint to three figures.
Top speed for all models is capped at 250 km/h.
Pricing starts at a smidgen over R2,3-million, and runs through to around R3,5-million, before extras (compared to the coupe’s R2 058 776 to R3 307 426 spread).
