Mid-engined Hyundai Veloster prototype spotted

Proof that Hyundai are serious about adding a few real performance models to its line up is this mid-engined Hyundai Veloster prototype spotted undergoing testing in South Korea.

Hyundai isn’t saying anything though judging by the wider body, huge side vents, and lowered stance, this is definitely something a little special. Reminds one of the outrageous Renault Clio V6 RS doesn’t it?

Last year Hyundai showed a Veloster Midship Concept created by the same bunch responsible for their i20 WRC machine. Described as a “mini supercar”, the Midship Concept featured a rear mid-engine layout with a 220 kW 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol engine, a strengthened chassis, and a lighter aluminium suspension.  Back then Hyundai stated that the concept was created to “explore the possibilities for the Veloster chassis.”

Perhaps this is the next step in that process…?
