Mini has announced that all models built from March 2018 onwards will feature a new, simplified logo inspired by elements of the emblems used on classic Minis.
The BMW-backed British brand says that this new interpretation of its familiar logo takes the form of a “reduced design that focuses on the essentials” with a “deliberate avoidance” of shading and grey tones (although the example above does include a little shading).
This new logo will be applied to the bonnet, at the rear, in the centre of the steering wheel and on the keyfob.
The firm says the latest logo “draws on the three-dimensional style of depiction” that has existed since the relaunch of the brand in 2001, applying this to a form of visual expression that it calls “flat design”. In effect, the three-dimensional design of the outgoing logo will be replaced by a two-dimensional emblem.
Of course, the brand has been careful not to make too drastic a change, retaining the familiar winged wheel motif, with the brand name printed in capital letters at the centre.
Interestingly, it seems that this simplified logo was first revealed as long ago as 2015. It was also featured on the Mini Electric Concept unveiled earlier this year.
