Mitsubishi Motors has revealed the GT-PHEV Concept, a so-called “Ground Tourer” SUV that will make its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The concept is powered by the latest version of the Japanese brand’s plug-in hybrid electric system, which Mitsubishi says delivers “superior motive performance to empower drivers of any skill level to confidently follow new paths as they like through a multitude of different weather and road surface conditions”. In other words, it’s apparently talented both on and off tarmac.
The PHEV system comprises a high-capacity battery package, three high-output motors and an engine designed especially for the PHEV system.
The automaker says the concept has an electric-only range of 120 km and a combined hybrid cruising range of more than 1 200 km. The triple-motor powertrain, with one unit at the front and two at the rear, effectively creates a permanent all-wheel-drive system.
Inside, the GT-PHEV Concept adopts what Mitsubishi calls “the latest in connected car technology” that feeds back to the car route information as well as data on weather and road surface conditions.
Expect a little more detail to be revealed in Paris.
