Ford has officially lifted the wraps off the 2014 Mustang.
The latest images show an evolutionary approach to the Mustang’s styling with hints of Ford’s Evos concept about it. Some may feel that it isn’t perhaps as muscular and overt as the current car, but there’s no doubt that it’s a proper eye-catcher, nonetheless. The headlamps feature LED ‘gill’ elements and the pictured GT features a neat fastback rear that tapers into a steeply raked rump with pillar brakelamps.
The new car’s wheelbase is identical to that of it’s predecessor, but it’s wider, marginally shorter and lower than before.
The cabin appears to have received improved trim materials. The highlight include a metal ‘slab’ facia, updated switchgear with toggle controls in the centre console, a new three-spoke steering wheel and an upgraded infotainment system.
In line with the Blue Oval’s “One Ford” model philosophy, the new pony car has now been developed with countries outside the borders of America including South Africa in mind. Expect to see it here in 2015.
“The illustrious Mustang brand has alluded us for some year’s in South Africa, but as part of the One Ford strategy continues to develop we can now look forward to welcoming this iconic nameplate to South African,’ showrooms said Ford marketing manager South Africa Gavin Golightly. “Today’s reveal has been much anticipated around the globe and we are thrilled to now be part of the Mustang journey.’
The powerplant line-up has yet to be confirmed, but Ford has stated that V6 and V8 options will be offered. Early reports suggest that, in both cases, the power outputs will increase. A 2,3-litre EcoBoost turbopetrol has also been suggested, reportedly serving up 227 kW and over 400 N.m of torque. The six-speed Getrag manual and automatic transmissions will be carried over from the previous car.
