Recently a lightly camouflaged R35 Nissan GT-R has been spotted testing. It now seems this is the final facelift, before Nissan will reveal a new GT-R towards the end of 2016.
Since the introduction of the current Nissan GT-R, the company has set out to update the car on an annual basis. This has lead to tweaks and power upgrades throughout the model’s product life.
According to Nissan’s chief creative officer, Shiro Nakamura, “there is still room to improve”. This means there is likely to be another power update, while the suspension will also be updated. However, forget about another hardcore version, as the current Nismo GT-R is set to remain the pinnacle of the R35 generation.
The new R36 will offer a different powertrain. Although it would still feature a turbocharged engine, it will be a hybrid powertrain. It will still offer the “boxy and functional appearance, it shouldn’t be too elegant, and it should be brutal, with a rawness”, said Nakamura.
The exterior design will be based around the Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo Concept, which in itself looks brutally aggressive!
Even though offering a hybrid powertrain, we still expect the upcoming GT-R to punch above its weight in terms of pricing – as is currently the case.
