Unveiled at the 2016 Geneva motor show, the fourth generation Renault Scenic looks set to further blur the lines between traditional segments.
Indeed, combined with an (expected) increase in overall size compared with the previous generation model the new Scenic will also feature a hint of rugged crossover thanks predominantly to the fitment of visually-appealing 20-inch alloy wheels throughout the range. Countering the worrisome fragility of these wheels (especially in markets where potholes prevail) is an increase in the sidewall height of the corresponding tyres (to 107 mm) in order that the rubber itself offers similar characteristics to those of a traditional 17-inch tyre.
A carryover of Renault’s current two-tone colour scheme execution (with the option of an alternate roof colour) adds further presence to the Scenic range.
While a Grand Scenic will follow in time the 2016 Scenic is 13 mm taller, 40 mm longer and 20 mm wider than the outgoing models. A corresponding 32 mm increase in wheelbase length guarantees greater interior occupancy space, together with 572-liters worth of luggage clearance.
Interior innovations will include a (13-litre) sliding centre console, as well as a new one-touch folding seat system.
With the new Scenic Renault will introduce both active emergency braking technologies and pedestrian detection system to the compact MPV segment.
Expect a hyrbid drivetrain option to complement a wide range of petrol and diesel engined derivatives.
With no plans to introduce its latest MPV into the South African market during 2016 local fans should look to 2017 for their first taste of the fourth generation Scenic.
