The last time we saw a hot Nissan Sentra was well over 15 years ago, in the form of the STi. This US-spec newcomer, however, is dubbed the Sentra SR Turbo.
Admittedly, though, it is an update of the more powerful 2000 Nissan Sentra SE-R that didn’t ever make its way to South Africa either.
Nissan does offer a Sentra in SA, but it’s not the most popular sedan around, with just 13 units sold last month. Regardless, it seems highly unlikely that the SR Turbo will ever make it to our market.
The new model uses a turbocharged 1,6-litre four-cylinder engine that sends 140 kW and 240 N.m to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or optional CVT. It also makes use of a revised steering system, larger front disc brakes and a tweaked suspension.
Although the claimed outputs aren’t exactly mind-boggling, credit has to be given to Nissan for offering a performance kit with a decent power increase.
A premium package will also be made available for the SR Turbo, and includes the Nissan safety shield, leather upholstery and a Bose audio system.
