After securing a contract worth R32 million from DaimlerChrysler last week, Pasdec Automotive Technologies have clinched another huge deal. They will manufacturer automotive cable harnesses for Nissan SA at a cost of R21 million a year.
The harnesses will be supplied for Nissan’s Almera vehicle range from May next year. They are also making harnesses for DaimlerChrysler’s Mitsubishi Colt range.
Keith Turner, the operations director of listed parent Pasdec Resources SA group, told Business Report the contract was for the duration of the life of the vehicle, which depended on when Nissan SA wanted to change its model lineup. It is likely to last for four years. The DaimlerChrysler contract is also estimated to be for about four years.
Turner said the number of harnesses for Nissan depended on the volume of local sales of the vehicle. “At the moment Nissan is selling between 600 and 700 units a month, so we’re basing our forecasts on that,” he said.
It is also only for the local market and not for Nissan’s exports. “Obviously we will pursue any options or leads and try to see if there are any export opportunities for us,” Turner said. Pasdec has manufacturing plants in Brits and East London.
