Peugeot has revealed the L500 R Hybrid concept some 100 years after Dario Resta won the Indianapolis 500 race in a Peugeot L45.
The French automaker calls the concept a “futuristic interpretation of the Indy spirit”.
The Peugeot L500 R Hybrid concept features the sort of wide track, low profile and light weight (1 000 kg) ideal for the track. According to Peugeot, it takes just 2,5 seconds to hit 100 km/h from standstill, and 19 seconds to cover 1 000 metres.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain features two electric motors – one front and one rear – plus a petrol engine, with total system torque coming in at 730 N.m. Inside, the steering wheel is small and two holograms show information in dual-disc displays.
“With Peugeot L500 R Hybrid, we’re paying tribute to Peugeot racing exploits dating to the early 20th century. Inspired by this spirit of performance and innovation we wanted to convey a sculptural, elegant and technological view of the future of Peugeot motor sport,” said Matthias Hossann, Peugeot’s concept car and technological advance chief.
