Subaru Southern Africa has announced the arrival of its updated Outback in local showrooms, confirming pricing for the refreshed model in the process.
As before, the local line-up will comprise just two derivatives. The Outback 2,5i-S ES comes in at R579 000, which represents an increase of some R24 000, while the Outback 3,6R-S ES is now priced at R649 000 (also R24 000 up).
So, what do you score for the additional cash? Well, the refresh includes a revised front bumper design, including additional front cladding. The grille, meanwhile, now has a single blade finished in chrome (the remaining two feature a matte black coat), while the LED headlamps have also been tweaked.
A new mirror-sited side-view camera has also been added, along with fresh 18-inch wheel designs. An additional two colours (Crimson Red Pearl and Wilderness Green Metallic) has furthermore been added to the exterior paint palette.
As before, the first derivative draws its urge from a 2,5-litre, horizontally opposed, four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 129 kW and 235 N.m to all four corners. The flagship model, meanwhile, makes use of a 3,6-litre six-cylinder boxer engine producing 191 kW and 350 N.m.
Both engines are mated to the brand?s Lineartronic continuously variable transmission, which features a seven-speed ?manual? mode and shift paddles. Subaru claims the CVT now offers ?an even smoother response thanks to a reworked ECU?.
Subaru says new sound-insulating glass has been used for the front side windows, while thicker insulation in the rear wheel wells ostensibly helps quieten down the cabin. The air-conditioning system has also been improved. Other updates include tweaks to the dampers, power steering and ?braking feel?.
Inside, the facia gains a few new panel inserts (in piano black and silver), while the steering wheel features new multifunction controls for the infotainment system, EyeSight safety system and vehicle display screens. There?s also a new seven-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system, as used in the new Impreza and XV. In addition, a further two USB ports have been added to the back of the centre console, catering to rear passengers.
In addition to the EyeSight driver assist system, the updated Outback is also offered with steering responsive headlamps. A five-year/150 000 km warranty and three-year/75 000 km maintenance plan come standard.
