Production of the new Toyota C-HR crossover has officially started at the Japanese automaker’s plant in Sakarya, Turkey.
The new crossover is scheduled to be launched in South Africa in the first quarter of 2017. The local-spec model is expected to be powered by a 1,2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, although a hybrid-powered version has been conceived for certain markets.
“The Toyota C-HR is a hugely important product for the whole of Toyota, not just for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey. The crossover segment is growing fast. This car is Toyota’s very strong entry to this segment,” said Dr Johan Van Zyl, Toyota Motor Europe President and CEO.
The C-HR will be built on the same production line as the Corolla and Verso.
We’ll be attending the international media launch soon, so be sure to check back for a full driving impression.
