Road version of DeltaWing racecar announced

The radical arrow-shaped racecar that was such a big talking point at the 2013 Le Mans has now spawned a road-going car called the GT.

DeltaWing Technologies, a collaboration between American Motorsport and Panoz Motorsport, have created a prototype of the proposed road car will be showing it at the Petit Le Mans endurance race at Road Atlanta, USA, this weekend. However, they don’t intend on building it themselves and are hoping to partner up with another company who also sees value in this lightweight and low drag vehicle that promises excellent fuel consumption and therefore reduced emissions. Their not saying too much about the technical specs yet, but said the car’s architecture has been improved and the drag coefficient of the road car has been lowered to 0,26.

The road car will accommodate any current or future transverse petrol, diesel or compressed natural gas (CNG) engine, and the platform can also be used with hybrid and electric powertrains.

There are plans for both two- and four-seat versions, as well as race version that, they are saying, will put out around 300 kW… certainly enough to make a car that weighs a mere 900 kg fairly quick.
