History repeats itself, right? This is the very notion fuelling the latest rumours that Honda will revive the S2000 in the next couple of years.
You see, back in 1998, Honda launched the original S2000 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. And, with its 70th birthday coming up in 2018, there’s plenty of speculation that the little roadster will be reborn.
In fact, according to a Car and Driver source, this is more than a mere rumour.
“Expect something special. Size-wise, it’ll be similar to the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but the Honda will have a lot more power,” the source told Car and Driver.
The US publication reports that the new S2000 will be powered by a “slightly detuned” version of the Honda Civic Type R’s 2,0-litre turbocharged four-pot, and built alongside the NSX in Ohio.
The insider added that he expected an all-new platform to be produced for this compact rear-wheel-drive sports-car.
“Both those coupes [the S660 and NSX] have unique, dedicated platforms, right?” he said.
“A large complement of R&D staff from Japan are already in Ohio working on the car. They have more time now that the NSX is finished.”
The original Honda S2000 went out of production in 2009.
