Fresh rumours out of Japan suggest that a production version of the sleek RX-Vision Concept will indeed be unveiled later this year, wearing the Mazda RX-9 badge.
Of course, talk of a rotary revival is nothing new (we’ve heard this rumour countless times before, as well as denials from Mazda), but so far nothing of substance has materialised. And that’s what has us approaching these latest rumours with more than just a touch of cynicism.
Still, there’s always a chance…
According to Japanese publication Levolant Boost, the new RX-9 will be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017, marking 50 years since the rotary-powered Cosmo Sport made its debut.
The website claims that the RX-9 will draw plenty of styling inspiration from 2015’s RX-Vision Concept, with the production version eventually going on sale in 2019. We’ll believe it when we see it…
