The first batch of South African-built Ford Everest units produced for export markets have left the country.
The “Moondust Silver” Everest 2,2 XLT 4×4 pictured here is the very first export-spec model to come out of Silverton, and recently left the Port of Durban for Mombasa in Kenya.
“This is an exciting period for Ford Motor Company, as we’re now seeing the fruits of the more than R2,5-billion investment programme emerge with the first locally assembled Ford Everest models coming off the line and being shipped to their new owners across the region,” said Ockert Berry, vice president of operations Middle East and Africa.
“The Silverton assembly plant is now operating as a fully fledged two-vehicle production facility, assembling both the Everest and the Ranger for the domestic and export markets,” he added.
The next batch of Everest export units scheduled to leave SA later this month will be split among Madagascar, Tanzania and Cameroon, with “other key markets to follow”, according to Ford Motor Company of SA.
The brand recently released local pricing for the expanded, locally produced eight-model Everest range, which now includes the new 2,2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine.
