The battle for the title of South Africa’s best-selling bakkie continues apace. So, what happened in October?
Well, industry sales in South Africa fell some 10,1% to 48 745 units in October 2016 (year-on-year). But it’s particularly interesting what has happened in the light commercial segment, where the year-on-year decline came in at an even loftier 10,7%.
So, we’ve decided to take a closer look at the sales figures to identify the 10 best-selling bakkies of October 2016 (also, have a look at the 10 best-selling passenger vehicles).
The big news is that the Ford Ranger managed to topple the Toyota Hilux, outselling the Japanese stalwart by 183 units in October (likely thanks in part to the expansion of the local range to include new self-shifting versions of the 2,2-litre turbodiesel model). The Nissan NP200, meanwhile, claimed third, essentially swapping places with its only true foe, the now-fourth-placed Chevrolet Utility.
The recently facelifted Isuzu KB held steady in fifth, while the Nissan NP300, Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up and Volkswagen Amarok likewise retained their sixth, seventh and eighth spots, respectively.
The Mahindra Bolero moved up one to ninth, which saw the Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up fall one to tenth. That means there’s no space for the Mazda BT-50 (50), Fiat Fullback (38), Tata Xenon (14), Nissan Navara (7) or Mitsubishi Triton (1).
See the top ten list below, and have a look at September’s figures here.
