The tenth-generation Honda Civic sedan has only just launched in South Africa (read our full driving impression), but now the Japanese automaker has officially revealed the hatchback version, too.
The vehicle you see in the accompanying images is the 1,5-litre turbocharged model destined for the North American market (yes, the US is finally getting the Civic hatchback), where it will join the already launched sedan and coupe variants.
This US version is, however, built by Honda’s UK manufacturing base in Swindon, which will serve as the “global production hub” for the hatchback model.
Production of the European Civic hatchback, meanwhile, is due to start at the same plant later this year, with sales commencing in initial markets in early 2017. It’s this model that will likely eventually be offered in South Africa.
No word yet, however, on exactly when we can expect the Civic hatchback to launch locally.
