Fiat has decided to revive the 124 name with this; a small roadster based on the popular Mazda MX-5. Rumours of this car were confirmed earlier this year as a front-engine, rear-wheel drive roadster with a collection of Alfa Romeo engines.
Although a supposedly simple re-badging job, the new 124 has a resemblance to the original 1974 124 Spider, especially around the headlamps while the rear looks to be inspired by the current generation Dodge Viper. Apart from this heavier front and rear end, the 124 still has a striking similarity to its MX-5 donor.
Engine options on this new model will most likely be Fiat’s turbocharged 1,4 litre, 135 kW and Alfa’s turbocharged 1,75 litre 180 kW as seen in the 4C to compose an Abarth variant.
More information on the 124 is expected to be released after the LA Auto Show in November.
