Subaru seems to be saving some of its most interesting special edition models for its domestic market. Yes, the S4 tS trim has already been used on the Forester in Japan, but now the WRX has gained the option as well.
A limited number of S4 tS WRX models will be built, each making use of styling enhancements and featuring an increase in power. Suspension and chassis upgrades, meanwhile, will come from the S207 special edition revealed last year.
Visual additions to the S4 tS trim include bespoke 19-inch BBS alloy wheels, a mesh-type front grille, front under-spoiler and a fresh rear bumper. The interior gains a few extra gauge displays, leather upholstered instruments, Recaro bucket seats and some exclusive panels.
Power of the S4 tS has been increased by modifying the air intake, exhaust system and oil cooler. Peak outputs from the 2,0-litre Boxer engine thus sit at 221 kW and 400 N.m. Handling has also been improved thanks to a flexible tower bar, adjustable damping and front-rear active torque vectoring.
Braking capabilities have furthermore been enhanced with the addition of four-piston Brembo brakes up front.
An NBR Challenge Package is also available for those who wish to celebrate Subaru’s victory in the SP3T class at the 2015 and 2016 Nürburgring 24 Hour Race. This upgrade includes a carbon rear spoiler, “Ultrasuede” steering wheel and some extra badges.
Strangely, the S4 tS models will be available with a CVT transmission only.
