The final BMW Z4 of the E89 generation has rolled off the production line at the German automaker’s Regensburg plant.
More than 115 000 examples of the second-generation roadster, which went into production back in 2009, were sold around the world.
The very last E89 Z4 comes in sDrive35is flavour, sporting Valencia Orange Metallic paintwork. It also serves as the Munich automaker’s final production car fitted with the familiar N54 3,0-litre straight-six turbocharged petrol engine.
Interestingly, the second-generation Z4 was available only with a three-piece folding metal roof, rather that a fabric top.
So, where to now for BMW’s two-seater convertible? Well, the brand is currently co-developing a replacement with Toyota, with the BMW-badged result likely to bear the Z5 moniker. Toyota’s version, meanwhile, is set to wear the Supra nameplate.
Production of these new twins is expected to start in 2018, so we will likely see an official reveal towards the end of 2017.
