The 2016 version of a respected annual study suggests that this automaker has retained the title of the world’s most valuable car brand. Yes, we’re talking about Toyota.
The BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands study, compiled by market researcher Millward Brown, puts the Japanese automaker’s brand value at a whopping $29,5-billion (a 2% increase over 2015’s figure).
Toyota has claimed top spot in nine of the study’s 11 years.
BMW again placed second (with a brand value of $26,8-billion), while German rival Mercedes-Benz grew some 4% to hold steady in third at $22,7-billion. Honda placed fourth, Ford fifth, and Nissan sixth.
Scandal-hit Volkswagen, meanwhile, fell out of the top ten (after placing eighth in 2015). Audi endured a decrease in value of some 6%, but still managed to secure seventh place. Porsche, though, entered the top ten, claiming ninth place. Tesla snaffled the final spot in the top ten, bouncing Lexus off the list.
Interestingly, the total value of the top ten automakers fell some 3% to $139,9-billion in 2016, thanks largely to a decrease in brand value at Audi, Honda and Land Rover.
