Despite being an overall decent product we didn’t really take to the first Sonic released by Chevrolet due to its lack of appeal and excitement and due to the fact that it was greatly overshadowed by the Aveo in both price and execution. Chevrolet has decided to give it a go once again nonetheless with a Sonic that fits in to its new styling theme.
Being a facelifted model there are no apparent structural changes which doesn’t solve a lot of the shortcomings it had before but it’s safe to say that the design is certainly more striking thanks to a completely redesigned nose and the new signature LED headlamp and revised taillamp cluster.
No images of the interior are present as yet but Chevrolet has confirmed that the Sonic will come equipped with a MyLink integrated infotainment system mated to a 7-inch touchscreen. Optional extras include a heated cloth seats and steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition and rear park assist.
The RS model will also be joining the facelift range. With it you’ll receive the peppy 1,4-litre 102 kW turbocharged engine with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission as well as some RS-logo floor mats, piano black décor, RS-badged flat-bottom steering wheel and red cloth seating.
More information will be provided after its official launch at the New York International Auto Show. No word yet on whether the Sonic facelift will be launched in South Africa.
