Conceived and developed by the Toyota Australia product design team, the scale model of this 86 Shooting Brake concept impressed Toyota’s global chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, so much he commissioned his expert takumi prototype craftsmen to hand build a working example of the car.
Identical to the 86 Coupe from its nose to b-pillar (including wheelbase), the more practical shooting brake design adds 39-kilograms of mass to the overall package. While there’s unfortunately no gain in rear passenger legroom, one advantage, besides an obviously larger luggage area, is optimised rear headroom.
While for now the 86 Shooting Brake remains a one-off concept, Tada-san did confirm he would love to see this model go into production and, as such, would be closely monitoring public reaction to Shooting Brake creation.
