Early in October, we reported that Toyota is working on another two sportscars. Now it has surfaced that president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, has asked the 86’s chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, “to make a successor to the Supra as soon as possible”.
Tada went on to explain that the 86 took five years to develop, and the same will be the case for the upcoming Supra. This means that we should see a production-ready car round 2017.
As previously reported, the new Supra is likely to offer a hybrid system like we have come to see with more and more supercars, i.e. Ferrari Enzo, Porsche 918 and McLaren P1.
We can rest assured that the upcoming Supra will be something special if Tetsuya Tada heads the development. Tada won the Japan Rally Championship in 1982.
