Toyota has released a teaser image of the new, third-generation Auris ahead of its official reveal at the Geneva International Motor Show, while also announcing details about new engines and transmissions.
While the Japanese automaker didn?t reveal much about the new Auris, it did promise that the hatchback would boast ?a more dynamic exterior design? along with the option of a new 2,0-litre full hybrid powertrain.
The brand also revealed a few details about its new 2,0-litre ?Dynamic Force Engine? (which will also be offered in purely petrol-powered form), explaining that it adopts ?high-speed combustion technologies and a variable control system?.
Toyota says the new four-cylinder petrol unit also achieves greater thermal efficiency and increased torque ?at all engine speeds? compared with existing engines. The brand also promises that the new powerplant will comply with expected future exhaust regulations “in advance”.
The naturally aspirated 1 986 cc engine makes 126 kW at 6 600 r/min and 205 N.m at 4 800 r/min. In a hybrid powertrain configuration, these petrol figures come in at 107 kW and 180 N.m.
Toyota furthermore says it has developed a new, lighter six-speed manual gearbox, along with a continuously variable transmission that features a ?launch gear? that utilises gear (rather than belt) drive when starting from a full stop.
