This creation is a joint collaboration called Deep Orange between Toyota and the students of Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research. It’s called the uBox and it’s aimed at appealing to members of “Generation Z” (People born after 1995 who have had access to technology at a young age).
The design of the uBox is very militant and looks like something you would find in the battlefield but its functionality is the complete opposite. It comes equipped with LED running lights, suicide rear doors and a curved glass roof supported by composite carbon fiber rails bonded with aluminium.
The interior of the uBox his highly customisable thanks to the removable seats which can be reconfigured along the sliding tracks. The interior design can be personalised by owners and uploaded to an online community where others will be able to download and 3D print it for installation.
Toyota isn’t giving any information regarding specs and performance figures but it has mentioned that the uBox runs off an EV powertrain and is equipped with a number of of 110-volt outlets which can be used to power the various electronics of the occupants (laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc).
The uBox will most likely never see a production run as it is a development project to assist students with automotive development, market research and design studies to engineering and manufacturing.
