VIDEO: New ultra-luxurious Volvo XC90 Excellence revealed

By: Steve Smith

Ahead of the Shanghai Motor Show, the Swedes have announced a new top-of-the range derivative of their new luxury SUV – meet the Volvo XC90 Excellence.

Set to take on the likes of the recently-revealed Range Rover SVAutobiography, the XC90 Excellence eschews the standard car’s seven-seat layout for a four seat one with two individual massaging rear seats.

Clearly eyeing the Chinese luxury market whose car owners like to be chauffeured everywhere, it has increased rear leg room and a host of rear passenger amenities. These include retractable touch screens, folding tables plus a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders. There are also hand-made crystal glasses in the central rear console made by  leading Swedish glass design company, Orrefors, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 19 speakers, extra leather trimmings, ambient lighting and an air conditioning system that removes dust in the air inside the car.

Not only does the Excellence also includes extra noise insulation, but also comes with Pirelli Noise Cancelling System tyres.

“This is our new flagship car,” says Volvo’s senior vice president for design, Thomas Ingenlath. “We have created the ultimate luxury experience of Scandinavian design. Volvo has never launched a car like this before. This is the car that demonstrates what the name Volvo now means.

“What we have designed is amongst the best rear seat experiences available in a luxury car. The result is a superlative environment for relaxed comfort or doing business.”

Unfortunately Volvo SA currently has no plans to launch this derivative in here.
