Having tempted the crossover fraternity with a host of Taigun and CrossBlue concepts for long enough, an official from Volkswagen has announced that production versions are on the cards and will fill notable gaps in what is otherwise a comprehensive prortfolio.
Speaking with Australian motoring website, CarAdvice, Volkswagen Group Australia managing director John Hill confirmed that the company will be introducing a pair of new crossovers that will slot in above and below the 2016 Tiguan.
Although details beyond this announcement are sparse, it’s expected that the first member of this pair will be a production version of the Taigun concept. This compact crossover concept has already seen its second, almost production-ready, iteration and will take the fight to the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Jeep Renegade/Fiat 500X and Renault’s Captur
A CrossBlue concept-based model will likely follow at a later stage, forming a bridge between the 2016 Tiguan, which will grow in size and introduce an LWB 7-seater model, and its range-topping Touareg sibling.
The new Tiguan is expected to emerge towards the end of 2016.
