Weza Moss has been appointed Volkswagen SA’s Community Trust manager. Moss will be the driving force behind empowerment initiatives in the communities of the Nelson Mandela Metropole.
He has previously managed VWSA’s employment equity and black economic empowerment initiatives within both the Human Resources and Marketing environments, the company said.
Moss is an executive member of the Black Management Forum and heads its Education and Training/Human Resources Development portfolio. He also represents Volkswagen SA on the PE Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Black Economic Empowerment committee.
Moss has been given the job of identifying investment opportunities in empowerment initiatives within the Nelson Mandela metropole (this includes communities of Uitenhage, Despatch, Port Elizabeth and its outlying areas), the spokesman said.
"We believe that we need to inculcate the culture of taking ownership and accountability so that these communities can better their lives and, ultimately, their futures. We will be working closely with community structures, NGOs, government and other relevant stakeholders that would add value and also assist the Trust in achieving the set objectives," Moss said.
"We are looking, too, at working with the Department of Education and Training and other key institutions in identifying a pilot project in Uitenhage that can be used to improve the management and leadership competencies within the school management structures as well as Matric intervention programmes.
"While we will also be focusing our efforts on fighting the HIV/Aids pandemic and will, with the assistance of the VW Medical Department, develop a holistic and pragmatic approach. This will include the prevention and management of the disease as well as the issues of women and child abuse in this area."
Moss, who is married and has one child, has a degree in Social Science from the University of Fort Hare. He takes over the position vacated by Mveleli Ncula, who was recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the SA Rugby Football Union’s amateur structures.
