According to the latest figures, the Volkswagen Group has sold more vehicles in the first half of 2016 than any other manufacturer.
The news comes despite the emissions scandal still engulfing the German automaker. Yes, the VW Group managed to keep ahold of the lead it opened up in the first quarter of the year.
In fact, the VW Group sold some 5 116 800 vehicles in the first six months of 2016 (an increase of around 1,5 %), with Toyota managing 4 991 741 units across its various brands (a drop of 0,6 %) over the same time.
General Motors sold 4 760 000 vehicles in the same period, which puts it neatly in third place.
Volkswagen reported strong increases in sales in China and various European markets, along with a small drop in North America and a significant fall in South America.
For the record, Toyota has held the title of the world’s top-selling automaker for the past four years.
