With rumours gaining momentum of details regarding the upcoming Ford Focus RS, we thought it appropriate to publish the original Focus RS road test as this week’s archive article.
Back in 2003 the RS featured a 2,0-litre turbocharged engine developing 158 kW and 310 N.m of torque. It’s interesting how times have changed over the past eight years as in 2012 the new ST now out perform that RS model.
The sprint to 100 km/h was dealt with in 7,35 seconds (6,82 for the new ST) while it passed the one kilometre mark in 27,94 seconds (26,6 seconds) at 189 km/h (200,8 km/h).
We ended the road test with the following remark: “There hasn’t been a harder edged, more “focused” hot hatch than this for quite a while”. It’ll be interesting to see whether the next RS is as impressive. Based on the the current ST, it certainly should be.
