In the latest issue of CAR (December 2012) you can read all about the Alfa Romeo Giulia. This boxy little saloon turned 50 this year and Alfisti all over the world have taken the chance to celebrate it’s “birthday” all year long.
During the 1960s and ’70s CAR conducted no less than five different full road tests on various Giulia models. The car featured here was one of the later models, the 1600 Super, which we tested in January 1972. The upgraded model featured a 3,5 per cent power increase and had the handbrake repositioned from under the awkward under-dash location to between the front seats, we reported at the time.
The 86,6 kW four-pot was good for a zero-to-100 km/h sprint time of 11,4 seconds and a top speed of 174,6 km/h, making the 1600 Super one the best performing small saloons of the time.
Enjoy the read and join us in wishing the Giulia a very happy 50th birthday.
