Back in the 1980s and 1990s, BMW’s model line-up didn’t offer the current crop of Gran Coupés. However, like today, the company did offer a 6 Series Coupé. And, like today, it was one of BMW’s priciest, most luxurious cars.
This is perfectly summed up by the third paragraph of this road test from the September issue of CAR in 1983: “Yet unchallenged leadership in the top BMW range must go to the exclusive BMW 635 CSi – a stately and sumptuous coupé model which is available here only to special order, at a price of R65 000.”
Note the beautiful blue leather seats and the thick three-spoke steering wheel.
