A few weeks ago CARmag.co.za reported that Nissan will be reintroducing the Datsun nameplate. With that in mind this week’s Classic Road Test features one of the earliest road tests of a Datsun that CAR published.
In December 1966 we brought you a comprehensive rundown on the “likeable family car” from the, then fledgling, Japanese brand. As an upgrade from the previous model’s 1 200 cm3 motor the newer car featured a 1 300 version of the similar engine with a longer stroke that increased swept volume and power; the SAE rating was 67 bhp (50 kW in modern speak).
At the time we also ran a comprehensive data set of 1200 vs 1300 test information allowing readers to compare the models directly on similar criteria.
If you are excited about the return of the Datsun brand then we are sure you’ll enjoy reading this test.
