Back in the early ’70s this menacing machine was the talk of the dorp, seeing as it mated the slinky Capri body with a macho 5,0-litre engine borrowed from the Fairlane V8. The brainchild of Basil Green, the Capri Perana was homologated for racing in the South African production car series, where it competed in the hands of the likes of Koos Swanepoel. Swanepoel actually took part in CAR’s original test, published in January 1971. Must say, 0-100 km/h in 6,7 seconds is nothing to be ashamed about, even 40 years later…
