Fans of the Forza Motorsport franchise should remember that the famous Warthog from the Halo franchise was featured in the Forzavista; a creative interface that was implemented in FM4 to allow players to explore the ins-and-outs of certain vehicles. Sadly, the all-terrain extraterrestrial war machine was not drivable.
The reasoning behind this, according to Turn 10 chief Dan Greenawalt, was that they did not have the resources at the time (back in 2010) to synthesise the complex driving mechanism into the game. These difficulties were based on the Warthog’s complex four-wheel steering system, massive suspension setup and futuristic tyres.
Six years later, at the request of both Forza and Halo fans, the developers at Playground Games have managed to finally fulfil the request…
It’s officially called the “2554 AMG Transport Dynamics M12S Warthog CST” and it is essentially a civilian transport alternative to its militaristic cousin, the M12 Force Application Vehicle (seen in Forza Motorsport 4). As a result it’s not as aggressive as the Warthog we’re all used to as it comes without the traditional turret gun. But with its 537 kW twin-turbo V8, it is slightly faster and perfect for the Australian environment. The advanced suspension also provides it with a 700 mm travel with advanced dampening, meaning you’ll be able to drive it over almost anything.
The Warthog will be available to anyone who has played Halo 5: Guardians or The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One when Horizon 3 is released later this month.
