After a grueling ODI series against England we got a chance to catch up with two of the Proteas’ finest batsmen, Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock, to get an idea of what sort of cars they’re into and why:
Hashim Amla
Amla’s daily drive is a Lexus SUV. He wasn’t sure which one exactly but we agreed that the RX was a safe assumption. The Lexus was given to him as a sponsorship deal from Toyota which he enjoys but it doesn’t really match up to his dream car, the Bugatti Veyron. Amla’s fascination with the Veyron is simple. He’s drawn to it because of the achievements it has made with regards to speed and performance and its ability to push the automotive boundaries. Despite being his dream car he states the opportunity to own one as a “maybe”.
Quinton de Kock
de Kock seems to be the petrol head of the Proteas. His daily drive is the new Mustang GT which he purchased because of the iconic status that the name has held for the past 50 years. It shouldn’t be a surprise then, that his dream car is the legendary ’67 Mustang GT500 Eleanor as seen in the film Gone in Sixty Seconds. Being a muscle car man he sees the Mustang as the ultimate example for this segment and has said that if one ever pops up at a reasonable deal he’ll definitely make an attempt at purchasing one.
Some interesting choices from these two batsmen indeed. We wish the Proteas the best of luck with their upcoming T20 series against England this week.
