Cadillac has been out of the endurance racing scene for almost 14 years, but the brand is set to make a comeback with this, the DPi-V.R.
The new model will compete in next year’s Daytona Prototype series, starting with the IMSA WeatherTech SporstCar Championship.
The Cadillac will compete against the likes of Mazda’s new RT24-P while making use of a Dallara LMP2 chassis and a naturally aspirated 6,2-litre V8, developed by Earnhardt Childress Racing and tuned to deliver 447 kW. This engine is also found in other Daytona prototypes.
The prototype has been going through a testing programme since September. Action Express and Wayne Taylor Racing will field the DPi-V.R vehicles.
The Cadillac Northstar, which competed in the early 2000s, didn’t see much success, with it only a handful of podium finishes and several DNFs. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see if this model has what it takes to be a bit more successful for the brand.
