Not too long ago, Citroën pulled the covers off its new C3, which adopts plenty of design cues from the C4 Cactus. Now the brand has unveiled a concept of its upcoming WRC fighter.
Citroën’s record in the World Rally Championship is undoubtedly one of the most impressive, with the French brand just two trophies away from dethroning Lancia as the sport’s most successful marque. From around 2013, however, the DS3 started having a tough time against Volkswagen’s Polo R WRC and, this year, the Hyundai i20 WRC.
Citroën is obviously hoping to change this, and in an attempt to do so, it has fitted the C3 WRC with a 283 kW turbocharged engine, an effective aero kit (giving it a width of 1 875 mm) and an electronic front differential, as well as shaving 25 kg off the total weight.
Despite this early reveal, there are still a few tweaks that the engineers at Citroën will make before receiving FIA approval, with the final version slated for a 2017 debut at the Monte Carlo Rally.
Expect to see more of the C3 WRC at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
