The Daytona Prototype International (DPi) is an American endurance racing series that features only the prototype class. Mazda has decided to enter this field of racing in 2017 with the RT24-P pictured here.
It’s quite a bit different to the diesel LMP2 SkyActiv that competed in 2014, as this particular model makes use of a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine said to push out 448 kW.
So, despite having the letters “RT” in its name, it’s clearly not rotary…
The design is quite a striking one and clearly adopts the so-called “Kodo” philosophy seen throughout the current Mazda range.
Mazda North America claims that by using this philosophy it was able to create an attractive car without having to sacrifice its aerodynamic integrity.
