US business magazine Forbes has released its annual list of the world’s highest-paid athletes, with two Formula 1 drivers making the top 20.
According to Forbes, world champion Lewis Hamilton is the best-paid F1 driver (and eleventh on the overall list), taking home a whopping $46-million (around R683-million), some $4-million of which came in the form of endorsements.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel weighed in with $41-million (about R608-million), putting him in 19th place overall. McLaren’s Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, comes in at 24th, pocketing a total of $36.5-million (R542-million).
Hamilton’s teammate at Mercedes, Nico Rosberg, is the fourth and final F1 driver to make the top 100 (squeezing in at 98), taking home $21-million (R312-million).
Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo took the title of the world’s highest-paid athlete this year, raking in $88-million (around R1,31-billion).
