Availability of low-sulphur diesel

By: CAR magazine

Further to CAR’s recent long-term test on the Renault Duster, I’m looking at doing a long-distance tour to Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique in a Duster AWD. Do you know what the availability of the required low-sulphur diesel (50 ppm) is in these countries?
The Internet has only limited info…

Answer: We asked Huiming Li, director of global fuel specifications at www.stratosadvisors.com, to detail fuel qualities in the countries you mentioned. Keep in mind that this is the regulatory specification, but excludes what happens between the refinery and the fuel station. Water (and other contaminates) entering the supply before point of sale is unfortunately a reality when quality control is lacking.
