The first official video of the Jaguar C-X17 has hit the ‘web ahead of the concept’s imminent unveiling at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
This SUV/crossover concept has been developed to showcase Jaguar’s upcoming all-aluminium, modular platform. This architecture, dubbed iQ [Al], is set to underpin a number of future models from the firm’s eagerly awaited BMW 3 Series/Mercedes-Benz C-Class rival to larger models such as the next-generation XJ and Land Rover Discovery.
There’s no word as to what powers the C-X17, but the brief blast of exhaust in the video clip suggests that it could be the same supercharged V6 that’s currently doing service in the Jaguar F-Type.
According to Jaguar’s Global Brand Director Adrian Hallmark, “The C-X17 sports crossover represents an exciting new direction for Jaguar. Its purpose is to highlight our all-new aluminium architecture. With this technical foundation, we will dramatically expand Jaguar’s product offering, market potential and customer appeal.”
Whether this will translate into production viability for a Jaguar crossover remains to be seen.
