In the June 2011 issue of CAR magazine, we research the electric-vehicle market in California and the implications of EVs for South Africa. What is clear is that, without a massive infrastructure roll-out of charging stations, most EVs remain too impractical for wide-scale application.
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid-electric vehicle (PEV) and, as such, not only makes use of batteries and an electric motor to power the vehicle, but also has a conventional engine that acts as a back-up power source. It therefor bypasses range anxiety. This video shows how a PEV’s range extender can save you lots of money when travelling longer distances.
