After a long absence, Mitsubishi has decided to import the Lancer Evolution X to South Africa. The battle between the Subaru WRX STI and Evo has raged for years, and with the arrival of the X, what better way to settle this comparison than on the track?
The manual WRX STI saloon was tested in 2011. On the day, it was a lot warmer (26 degrees C versus the Evo’s 15 degrees C), and it managed a 1:28,51, while the twin-clutch automatic Evo managed a 1:28,98. The STI is R110 000 cheaper than the Evo (R699 000 against R589 000).
Interestingly, the Renault Megane RS Trophy (2012) managed an impressive 1:27,45, although it was a chilly eight degrees C that morning.
Look out for a full road test of the Evo X in the upcoming November issue of CAR magazine.
