Until a week ago, La Sarthe was just a racetrack that I had seen on GT4. Only when I went to the 24 Hours of Le Mans last week did it take on a whole different meaning all together.
From where we were in the Audi hospitality tent, I had a bird’s eye view of the entry to the pit lane. I remember it from the game, as it’s the last few bends before you start a new lap, so you really push through these corners to get the best time possible. But all of that is nothing in comparison to experiencing the track in a real Le Mans car. This video, I suppose, is the closest that I will ever get to the experience.
Here Oliver Gavin is at the wheel of a Corvette and shows us how to drive La Sarthe. This is a good demonstration of how quick these cars actually are and also gives some aural pleasure.
